Al-Noor Community Masjid Renovation

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem.

Al-Noor Masjid has been the beating heart of Detroit's Muslim community since 1993. On any given Friday, over 600 worshippers fill its halls for Jumu'ah. On Eid, that number swells to more than 2,000 as families travel from across the state to pray together.

But three decades of constant use have taken their toll. The roof above the main prayer hall leaks when it rains heavily. The wudu facilities are inadequate for our growing congregation, with long queues forming before every prayer. The HVAC system is original to the building — in winter, the elderly among us are forced to pray in their coats.

What your donation will fund:

• Phase 1 – Roof replacement ($55,000): Full teardown and replacement of the flat roof over the main hall and annex with a modern, insulated membrane system.
• Phase 2 – Wudu facilities ($45,000): Construction of an extended ablution area — 24 individual stations, new tiling, improved drainage, and accessible facilities for those with mobility needs.
• Phase 3 – HVAC & electrical ($35,000): Replacement of the 30-year-old heating and cooling system, LED lighting throughout, and a new electrical panel.
• Phase 4 – Prayer hall refurbishment ($15,000): New carpeting in the main hall and sisters' section, fresh paintwork, and repair of the original wood panelling.

Scholars remind us that building a masjid for the sake of Allah is among the greatest sadaqah jariyah — continuous charity that continues to benefit the builder even after death. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him something similar in Paradise."

We have already secured $40,000 in matching funds from three local businesses. Every dollar raised before Ramadan will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to that amount.
