Drill 10 Clean Water Wells – Drought-Stricken Somalia

In the Togdheer and Sool regions of Somaliland, the rains have failed for the fourth consecutive year. Wells that sustained communities for generations have dried up. Women and girls — it is almost always women and girls — walk four to eight hours each way to reach water sources. They carry 20-litre jerry cans on their backs. They do this every single day.

The water they reach is often contaminated. Cholera, typhoid, and waterborne diarrhoea are endemic. Children die from diseases that could be prevented if they had access to what we consider unthinkable to be without.

One well changes everything.

A borehole drilled to the depth of the water table provides clean, safe water for an entire village — typically 200–500 people — for 20 years or more. The $7,500 cost covers drilling, casing, a hand pump, and a concrete surround. Our local partner trains community members to maintain the pump. This is a permanent solution.

We are raising $75,000 to drill 10 wells across 10 villages identified by our partner, Gargaar Relief Organization.

Yusuf Abdallah has personally visited six of the ten target villages. Every well drilled by our partners is photographed, GPS-tagged, and registered. Water quality tests are conducted on completion. You receive a personal update with the name of the village your donation helped serve, the GPS coordinates, and photos of the community celebrating their new water source.
