Masjid Al-Rahman – Emergency Roof Repair, Bradford

Masjid Al-Rahman in Bradford's Manningham district has been open since 1984. It was established by the first generation of British Pakistanis who came here to work and built their community from scratch. For four decades it has been a place of prayer, learning, and refuge.

The building has served us faithfully. But the roof has reached the end of its useful life.

We noticed the first leaks in the autumn of 2023. By winter 2024, we had 11 buckets on the floor of the main prayer hall during heavy rain. The carpets have been damaged. There is damp penetrating the walls near the mihrab. Our structural engineer has confirmed that if the roof is not replaced before winter 2026/27, we face significant structural damage to the building fabric.

The repair is straightforward. The cost is $25,000.

This covers:

• Full replacement of the flat roof membrane (1,200 sq ft)
• Replacement of failing parapets and flashings
• Re-waterproofing of the minaret base
• Repair of internal plaster damaged by damp
• New carpet for the affected prayer area

We have already raised $5,800 from our Friday jumu'ah collections over the past two months. We need your help to reach $25,000 before the summer, so contractors can complete the work before autumn.

This masjid is used by over 300 local Muslims every week. It is a house of Allah in the most literal sense. It deserves to stand with dignity.
